Ride to Leavenworth, Washington

A few Saturdays ago I decided I wanted to go for a ride somewhere. I started out toward Highway 2 and ended up in Leavenworth, Washington. Leavenworth is about 80 miles from where I live and it is a little tourist town. It is on Highway 2 near Stevens Pass. It has a Bavarian theme as you can tell from the pictures.

They were having an outdoor art show there and so the place was packed (it usually is on Saturday anyway). Lots of people and bikes of every make and model. It was a great ride. When you are looking for a place in Washington this is a nice destination.

Summer Falls

I rode  to Summer Falls about 20 miles away. The falls were a little disappointing with not much water spilling over but the ride on a twisty two lane road was worth it.

Grand Coulee Dam, Steamboat Rock, Dry Falls, Sun Lakes State Park

This post is for those of you that think Washington State is all wet and green.   While the west side of the state is like that (Seattle area), east of the Cascade Mountains is desert in many areas.  The Columbia Basin is home to basalt rock and sagebrush.  It is also some of the most productive farm land in the world.  I decided to take a ride to Grand Coulee Dam which is home to some beautiful (dry) land formations. Grand Coulee Dam itself is about a mile wide and is the largest concrete structure in the USA (to the best of my google knowledge). But you can Google that yourself if you are interested.  Below are pictures I took along the way of Sun Lakes State Park, Dry Falls, Steamboat Rock and Grand Coulee Dam.  It was a warm ride, about 95 degrees F (35 Celsius).  I found some shade at a park near the dam to eat a snack and get something to drink

Ride to Wild Horse Wind Farm

I rode my Yamaha FZ6 to Washington State’s Wild Horse Wind Farm yesterday.  It was about 85 degrees and clear blue sky.  The Wild Horse Wind Farm is located near Vantage, WA.  It is a site of about 130 wind generators serving about 70,000 homes in the NW.  You can tell these are big when you see them in the distance but you don’t realize how massive they are until you are standing under one.
